Many people wonder if Aikido, the peaceful martial art, is for real. When I saw Steven Seagal movies, his martial art skills looked to be choreographed and not as solid as Jet Li’s. That was until I realized that his martial art was actually Aikido. Then, it became apparent that he was actually good as his martial art. In fact, Steven Seagal is the first American to ever have an Aikido dojo in Japan. Steven Seagal is for real. So is Jet Li.
Then the question arises, can a martial art be a peaceful martial art that focuses on self defense, rather than offense? Would a peaceful martial art be effective? We are all taught that the reason for mastering martial arts is to be used for self defense and for good, not for attacking others. The reality is that most people would rather learn a martial art to be aggressive, not for self defense. So, you may wonder how does Aikido stack up against other martial arts?
